Description: Fissidens is an aquatic moss that is a particularly dark shade of green in comparison to other mosses. It is especially well suited to smaller nano tanks due to the small size of each frond and its tendency to grow outwards rather than upwards. The common name, phoenix moss is derived from the feather-like structure it adopts. Although gorgeous, this moss is incredibly slow-growing, especially in low Co2 environments.
Difficulty: As with all aquarium plants, Co2 injection and appropriate fertilisation are recommended for optimal health and growth. Fissidens will grow very slowly without Co2 and will therefore become extremely susceptible to algae. Co2 injection is recommended for this moss.
Emersed Growth: Fissidens Moss can be grown emersed. However, it will require high humidity to prevent drying out. Some hobbyists have been successful in blending Fissidens moss with aqua soil and then brushing it onto hardscape. Over 4 - 6 weeks, the moss will attach itself to the hardscape and not require tying or glueing.
