Description: Often mistaken with Christmas moss, this moss species displays a darker green colour than most. Its name is indeed suggestive of its growth pattern. As it is establishing it will grow flat and relatively compact, but over time the moss will grow layers. These new layers of growth will begin to flay outwards, pointed slightly upwards towards the light. Research suggests that in temperatures above 30°C it will struggle to maintain its peacock form. It is perfect to use in low-tech tanks as it is easy to grow and has an eye-catching growth form.
Difficulty: As with all aquarium plants, Co2 injection and appropriate fertilisation are recommended for optimal health and growth. Peacock moss will grow well without Co2 injection and under low or moderate lighting. However, the growth will not be as vibrant and there will be some brown spots.
Emersed Growth: As confirmed by the well known and famous aquascaping specialist company ADA, peacock moss can grow emersed. Its growth will be very compact but still horizontal. It is said to form a 'light green wall' in emersed setups.
