Description: Ludwigia glandulosa is a unique aquarium plant in that it is one of very few stem plants that are purple. As such, it can make for a stunning centrepiece, but not without adequate care. It is a somewhat demanding plant, and to unveil its full potential it requires Co2 and high lighting. The second picture shows the plant in its submerged state, slightly redder than the first photo. These stems were not grown in full lighting and therefore are not as purple as possible.

Difficulty: As with all aquarium plants, Co2 injection and appropriate fertilisation are recommended for optimal health and growth. Generally speaking, Ludwigia glandulosa is considered a moderately difficult aquarium plant and will be most appealing with Co2 injection and moderate lighting.

Emersed Growth: Ludwigia Glandulosa grows out of water quite easily. From personal experience it seems that when humidity levels are too high the plant can be prone to melting. By allowing a small amount of airflow, the humidity is decreased and the plant seems to perform better. Transitioning between emersed and submersed forms does not seem difficult for this plant.

If you are unsure of the difference between emersed and submersed growth you can visit our blog post here. This is a short article written by us that is easy to understand for beginners in planted aquariums.
