Description: Adopting a unique purplish colour, Hygrophila Lancea is characterised by its sharp leaves and ability to shoot stems horizontally. This makes it an excellent choice for the midground and background of aquariums where it can be propagated to form low bushes. To achieve an effective look in your aquarium, patience is required. Hygrophila Lancea will grow horizontally but regular trimming is required to achieve a bushy, compact appearance.

Difficulty: As with all aquarium plants, Co2 injection and appropriate fertilisation are recommended for optimal health and growth. Hygrophila Lancea is not recommended for beginners. It will typically require Co2 injection and moderate intensity lighting to succeed.

Emersed Growth: The emersed growth of Hygrophilla Lancea comes through quite easily. The transitioning stage can be somewhat difficult but once it has established new roots, it should get going quite quickly. The leaves are extremely similar in colour in emersed form but tend to be slightly broader and with thicker stems.

If you are unsure of the difference between emersed and submersed growth you can visit our blog post here. This is a short article written by us that is easy to understand for beginners in planted aquariums.
